3/22 - Case* Tournament at The Game Cellar
We didn’t forget to wear our CBG jerseys 😎.
3/25 - Weekly at Cardboard Games
Format: optional pre-siding, Bo1, 5 rounds, 22 players; https://melee.gg/Tournament/View/276801
Alyssa went 3-2, I went 4-1.
YouTube Interjection: I finally got some B-roll of CBG so I can use that as a psuedo intro instead of the video straight cutting into the gameplay video. I’ve done this for Kingslayer Games and The Game Cellar, but I kept forgetting to do the same for CBG, until today haha.
Deck - JTL Boba Yellow
On Tuesday (3/25), I had a Jango Tarkintown and Quinlan Tarkintown decks ready and I was planning to bring Quinlan Tarkintown, but I noticed that my JTL Boba Yellow vs Jango Tarkintown Case Tournament video popped off.
My Jango Tarkintown vs JTL Boba Yellow Case Tournament video didn’t perform as well, despite being the exact same matchup, but with different ordering of the decks in the title.
I’m assuming that the leading “JTL Boba Yellow” text made the difference, so I quickly rebuilt a JTL Boba Yellow before my weekly. I’m now beholden to the algorithm for the views 🙇📈.
Matchups
Vs JTL Boba Yellow 1-0
Coming into this matchup, I was under the impression that my opponent was just running the JTL Boba Spotlight deck (we briefly talked about bringing a Spotlight deck last week), but they did upgrade it, so that’s why I was a bit surprised when I saw their Triple Dark Raid. My uncontested (for two turns) Allegiant General Pryde did so much damage.
Vs JTL Boba Yellow 1-0
When I saw that they had the Allegiant General Pryde with initiative, I knew that this was going to be an uphill game for me. They got the dream play line of initiative + Allegiant General Pryde into a Guerilla Soldier in the following turn. My only saving grace was that their resource 4 turn was relatively “weak” with them “only” playing a Torpedo Barrage (but it still hurts a lot).
I also made a decisive play on the resource 5 turn to take initiative and float all five resources, just so I can deploy my leader as a pilot first to kill their only unit, IG-2000, to try to deny their leader pilot deploy.
Anyways, I’m pretty proud and surprised that I ended up winning this game despite the disadvantageous start.
Vs Kazuda Red 1-0
In the post-match discussion (you can skip to the timestamp), we talked about how they could’ve just flipped their leader as a unit instead of trying to stick a vehicle to pilot onto just to get the damage in starting on the resource 4 turn.
Vs Jango Tarkintown 0-1
I pre-sided, my opponent didn’t.
I felt that I had an ok early game, just trying to board control and the board was clear at the beginning of the resource 4 turn, but I quickly got overwhelmed. Their back to back Ruthless Raiders were painful.
Vs Kazuda Security Complex 1-0
Their Admiral Yularen giving grit to their friendly vehicles counters my indirect damage effects, but they only got one attack off with a vehicle with the added grit keyword in total. I was mostly focused on trying to board control.
Conclusion
I knew that the Jango Tarkintown matchup is rough, despite seeing some comments of how it’s not unfavorable for JTL Boba Yellow (idk how lol). Still not sure how to tune my deck against it.
Regarding my YouTube channel, pretty cool to see that particular video pop off and seeing my subscriber count go up from about 13→30 on Tuesday. Anyways, going to see if any of these videos pops off, and if not, I can play a different deck.
Jerry, On your play through videos through your point of view videos do you think you could angle the phone keeping life totals Thanks keep up the good work.
