Set 3 TWI Weekly #15 Recap
2/14-2/20: New YouTube channel for sharing my gameplays. More Twin Suns after the weekly! ☀️☀️
Table of Contents
2/18 - Cardboard Games Weekly
Format: optional pre-siding, Bo1, 4 rounds, 16 players; https://melee.gg/Tournament/View/224923
Alyssa went 2-2, I went 3-1.
One of Alyssa’s losses was kind of a joke lol.
Interjection for background context: Her opponent is a regular and they and Alyssa have participated in a Gundam Card Game Beta Trial event. We prearranged to bring our Gundam decks to play after the weekly.
When they got matched up, they suggested the idea to play Gundam instead and count that for the round’s win/loss record. Alyssa agreed and she ended up losing.
[Thanks to Kevin (CBG owner) for letting me (and any other content creators) record at their store.
Obligatory, here’s my YouTube channel, where I would be uploading the gameplays videos: https://www.youtube.com/@LumiMouseTCG]
I recently bought a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and brought it to CBG for the first time. I had done some gameplay recording tests at home prior, which resulted in me buying a small tripod and a CPL filter in preparation for this weekly.
I’d highly appreciate any (good or bad) feedback with the gameplay videos!
I'm aware of how much background noise is picked up. Will look to improve that.
I’m also aware that the first round’s gameplay was inadvertently recording more of the audio of the game next to us (Alyssa was so expressive/animated in her first round next to us). Thankfully, after Round 1, someone suggested to change the side where the Pocket 3 was set up (to solve a different issue), which inadvertently helped a little bit in this regard.
Deck - Jango Tarkintown
Basically the same list as last week’s, minor changes.
Matchups
Vs Quinlan Tarkintown 1-0
On the Resource3 turn, they played Set1 Millennium Falcon, which I was able to leader tap down from an Elite P-38 Starfighter’s ping, and then Tarkintown’ing afterwards. That was a pretty big tempo swing. They also had no play and floated all four resources on their Resource4 turn, rip.
We played another match afterwards for funsies (~10:33 timestamp).
[Toward the beginning of the video (~0:06 timestamp), you can hear Kevin asking if anyone wanted Set3 packs (players can exchange them for Set4 packs) and someone replying with “Heck no” lol.]
Vs Yoda Green 1-0
They only played one Concord Dawn Interceptors in total, which I got through via Triple Dark Raid → Fett’s Firespray.
They did play a Redemption and two Vigilances, but they didn’t really have a strong board state, so I eventually got through their heals.
Vs Luke ECL 0-1
We both pre-sided.
They had a turn1 Alliance Dispatcher + shield that I couldn’t really deal with. Their Bright Hope + Luke leader’s shield on the Resource4 turn (thanks to Alliance Dispatcher’s unit discount) was backbreaking. Not sure if I could’ve done it any better, but I basically had to sacrifice two space units and use my Tarkintown to get through it.
Vs Han Green 1-0
[This is the same longtime regular / locals regular from Set3 TWI Weekly Recap #13 and is once again telling me to say hi to the readers on their behalf, so that’s that lol.]
We both pre-sided.
They had a crazy start. Their Turn1 was Han leader tap and playing Resupply. Their Turn2 was playing a Resupply and then Han leader tap to deploy Han leader. I was flabbergasted when they pulled this off, all the while I only had three resources that turn.
Because they double ramped via the two Resupplys, they were able to play U-Wing Reinforcement on my Resource5 turn. They pulled out a Cad Bane, which captured both of my Cartel Spacers and killing one Droid token. Luckily I had an answer to their Cad Bane via Force Choke + Tarkintown, but I floated the other three resources that turn.
In the post-match discussion:
They mentioned how they saw both Luke Skywalker and Cad Bane via their U-Wing. They decided to play Cad Bane with the hopes of trying to get card draws via its on-attack effect.
After rewatching the gameplay recording, I realized that I accidentally did four damage instead of two damage to their base via Ruthless Raider’s effect on my Resource6 turn (~7:27 timestamp). I don’t think it would’ve mattered, because the game ended with them having 24 damage and me having 14 damage and I still had a lethal board state and they didn’t, but still, I’m a little disappointed in that sloppy mistake.
Conclusion + Twin Suns + Some Thoughts on the Gameplay Recordings
And just like last week, Kevin was allowing players to exchange their Set3 packs for Set4 packs, yay!
After the weekly was over, we started playing Twin Suns again! ☀️☀️
There were three full Twin Suns pods and a few people on standby/spectators? Alyssa and I played a total of two games.
Regarding the gameplay recordings, it was cool that my opponent was chill with it. The video quality came out pretty good, considering that I had issues connecting my phone to the DJI app (for the larger video feed screen; it’s resolved now) so I was just basing the video quality and framing on the Pocket’s built-in screen. I also didn’t really adjust any settings as I was more worried about the framing. I was pretty happy that there were no glare issues (I had previously adjusted the white balance at home + the CPL filters).
But with the gameplay recordings, it seems a bit redundant to go into my matchup details. I understand value in written text, but I think I won’t go into too many details and only write about any highlights/big moments from the match. We’ll see.
