5/04 - May 4th Case Event at Cardboard Games
Similar to CBG’s Store Showdown, I helped in determining the prizing distribution. It was actually 160 packs in prizing (assuming 32 players), but it was easier to market it as one case.
We also trialed doing this event with no Top Cut to try to cater to a more casual crowd. We were also surprised by the turnout (I was expecting around 16 players) given that this event was advertised on a short notice - the Wednesday (April 30th) of the same week. But it was also somewhat calculated as we were only aware of one other May 4th constructed event in the local area.
Format: Bo3, 5 rounds, no Top Cut, 22 players (total prizing was scaled down to 110 packs);

Alyssa went 1-4. I went 4-1, placing 5th.

My Matchups
Vs Leia Red
First time playing against Leia this set, and it does feel a bit different compared to playing against Sabine ECL.
Vs Qi’ra Data Vault
Mirror match.
Vs Sabine ECL (Alyssa)
Straightforward matches.
Vs Quinlan Tarkintown
The first game was so bad, I missed my turn 2 play. But this was a fun round as I wasn’t taking it as seriously after losing game 1.
Vs Qi’ra Data Vault
Another mirror match.
Conclusion
I’m a bit disappointed in Alyssa’s performance.
The mirror matchup can be such a grind and too draw dependent for my taste. Both opponents in the mirror matchups outramped me, feelsbadman.
I did get some feedback in prizing distribution and passed it along Kevin O (store owner). Planning to have a bit flatter prizing in future events.
