4/19 - Store Showdown at Krazy Nick’s Games
Format: Bo3, 5 rounds, Top Cut of 4, 15 players; https://melee.gg/Tournament/View/276779
We both went 2-2. Bleh.
Prizing in addition to the promos:
1st got 16 packs
2nd got 10 packs
3rd and 4th each got 6 packs
Three judge promos were raffled in between rounds.
It was Top 6 prizing for the Devastators promos.
The store got an error with their Store Showdown kit, where they got no Top 8 Devastators, but got extra Top 4/Finalist/Champion Devastators. Three judge promos were raffled out in between rounds.
It had a very diverse meta. The Top 4 were JTL Han Red, JTL Boba Yellow, JTL Vader Red, and Quinlan Tarkintown. The rest of the field includes 2x Bossk Blue, Fennec Tarkintown, the decks featured below, etc.
Deck - Cad Blue
The sideboard is mostly tuned against control. I was hoping that my main board is enough to deal with aggro/midrange decks.
Matchups
Vs JTL Luke ECL 2-1
Ngl, I initially thought I was playing against Poe leader, so I was expecting my opponent to start attaching their Poe leader to their vehicles. It wasn’t until they used their leader ability to ping off my Cloud-Rider that I realized that I was actually playing against JTL Luke leader 🤦.
This was a tough matchup.
Vs JTL Boba Yellow 1-2
I was a bit worried going into this matchup. Having played JTL Boba Yellow prior, I knew that this matchup wasn’t favorable for me as I would have to deal with all of the indirect damage. I felt that only won Game 2 via their bad draws.
Vs Bossk Blue 2-0
This was my first time playing in a control mirror where we both got decked out. I knew I was favored going into this matchup, but I still learned something of this matchup’s dynamics mid-game when they played Restock.
Vs Quinlan Tarkintown 0-2
I was being a bit greedy in Game 1 and I got punished for it (playing Contracted Jumpmaster too early, and passing on the resource 4 turn).
Conclusion
I’m a bit disappointed in our performance. JTL Boba Yellow is a bad matchup, so I’m not surprised of losing to it. I feel as if my deck should be able to hold up against Quinlan Tarkintown, but not sure.
