Set 3 TWI Weekly #17 Recap

2/28-3/06: Playing Twin Suns in the last Set 3 Weekly ☀️☀️.

Minimum 50 card decks (increasing to 80 minimum after Set 4 JTL release)
Single copy of any card in the deck (unless specified otherwise)
Two leaders, sharing either the Heroism or Villainy aspect, and one base
There is no passing.
There are two additional counters in addition to the Initiative counter that a player can pick that will make them automatically pass for all subsequent actions during that action phase:
- Blast counter: deals 1 damage to each enemy base.
- Plan counter: Draw a card, then put a card from the hand to the bottom of the deck.
End of Game: When a player defeats another player, that player restores 5 HP to their base.
- This is also the last action phase.
- The player with the most HP remaining on their base at the end of the current phase wins the game.

3/04 - Cardboard Games Twin Suns Weekly

Format: Twin Suns, Bo1, 3 rounds, 20 players (5 full Twin Suns pods!); https://melee.gg/Tournament/View/259070. This was originally a paid event with Set 4 prizing. But it was later changed to be a free event, still with Set 4 prizing.

Scoring: In a given pod, the 1st place gets four points, 2nd place gets three points, 3rd place gets two points, last place gets one point. After three rounds, where each round the corresponding placing players gets paired with each other, the prizing is based on those accumulated points.

Alyssa got 2nd place in all three of her pods. I got last place for all of mine 💀.

Alyssa’s Deck - Sabine Leia Yellow

It’s a deck with rebels and good stuff.

Jerry’s Deck - Chewbacca PalpSid Green

The main premise of this deck is to use Chewbacca’s sentinel granting ability to discourage others from hitting me. Using it on heroism units gives another layer of discouragement in that if they do get defeated, then it helps trigger my PalpSid’s ability, if it’s on the Heroism side.

My Matchups

Recording Preface: This is my first time recording Twin Suns gameplay. I had to record in 3K resolution and 1:1 aspect to fit everything in the frame. In Round 2, I forgot to turn on my wireless mic, so it’s using the Pocket 3’s internal mics. It also suddenly stopped recording in the middle of it, no idea why. For Round 1 & 3, I recorded with Gain -12 (context: https://www.lumimouse.com/i/157700555/recording-update), so this is basically as good as the audio gets with my current setup.

I got made a target after pointing out someone else’s 25 HP base, thinking that it would make them a target. They politicked better than me lol.

Conclusion

It’s pretty cool that Kevin (CBG owner) made this event free and still including Set 4 prizing. I’m also lowkey a bit surprised that 20 players showed up for today’s event.

This is going to be my last Set 3 post. The next post will most likely be my Set 4 predictions in the same vein as my Set 3 prediction post, which will be posted before March 14th.
