Set 3 TWI Weekly #16 Recap
2/21-2/27: Our last Set 3 premier weekly and fine-tuning my recording settings!
Table of Contents
2/23 - Games for Meeple Set 3 TWI Store Showdown
We both got Top 8. This is also the first time I’ve field tested the DJI Mic Minis.
2/25 - Cardboard Games Weekly
Format: optional pre-siding, Bo1, 4 rounds, 16 players; https://melee.gg/Tournament/View/224924
We were the only undefeated ones going into the last round, so we faced against each other. Alyssa went 4-0, I went 3-1.
Recording Update
I think I pretty much dialed in my audio recording settings after seeing the results from today. Basically, set Gain to the max negative value available (max is -12) to cut down on the background noise lol. You can hear the improvement as I had different Gain settings from Round 1 to Round 4:
Round 1: Gain -3 (iirc my opponent wasn’t mic’d up)
Round 2: Gain -6 (iirc. Only I was mic’d up)
Round 3: Gain -6 (my mic), Gain -3 (my opponent’s mic; forgot to adjust it before recording, and I wasn’t able to adjust during recording)
Round 4: Gain -9 (both of our mics)
I’m pretty happy with the today’s audio recording.
Slight tangent, the camera’s tripod wasn’t properly set up or something, because it was quite wobbly during game play. Luckily, I was able to stabilize the footage. Anyways, I’ll most likely write a post detailing my recording setup + YouTube upload process flow for whoever may care about it after I have fully nailed down on the settings and process.
Deck - Jango Tarkintown
Made minor changes to the deck list used in last Sunday’s Games For Meeple’s Store Showdown.
Main Deck: Took out two Cartel Spacers and both On the Doorstep for two Guavian Antagonizers and one Heavy Persuader Tank (prior list was running 51 cards in main deck).
Matchups
Vs Tarkin Yellow 1-0
Turn 2 was a bit awkward as I didn’t draw too well - my only play was basically ISB Agent and float two resources. So, I was contemplating whether to first ISB Agent Ping first + Jango leader ability exhaust their Scanning Officer or save ISB Agent for a bigger target.
Generally, I was pretty afraid of their Overwhelming Barrage potential, so that’s why I decided to kill their 4/3 Seventh Fleet Defender with my Sneak Attack’d Ruthless Raider instead of hitting their base on the Resource 5 turn.
Vs Han2 Yellow 1-0
I was pretty afraid of Set1 Millennium Falcon + Surprise Strike potential, so I played a bit more cautiously and tried to board control.
Vs Jango Tarkintown 1-0
This is my second time playing the mirror match (the first time being from CBG Store Showdown). Them missing Ruthless Raider from their Triple Dark Raid and me getting two early Armed to the Teeths was huge.
Vs Sabine ECL 0-1
We both pre-sided. This is vs Alyssa.
I thought I was doing pretty ok early game with my double one drops and bouncing back their Fighters for Freedom with my exploited Geonosis Patrol Fighter, but their Bright Hope stopped a lot of damage.
Conclusion + Twin Suns Afterwards
The so-so matchup performance vs Sabine ECL is what makes me miss playing Cad Tarkintown. This is also CBG’s last Set 3 premier weekly; next week is going to be a Twin Suns event, which we’re not planning to participate in. Way too many shenanigans going on in Twin Suns for me to want to play in a paid event and I don’t want to deal with trying to optimize our decks for it.
After the weekly, we had one full Twin Suns pod going while others were doing their sealed escalation matches (CBG has been doing this since Set 2, and, if you’re interested and local, currently taking signups for Set 4) and trading.
Anyways, one more week until Set 4 Jump to Lightspeed pre-release, hype hype! We’re currently signed up for three pre-release events and not planning for any more.
