1/10 - Magic & Monsters SOR Box Event*
Format: Bo3, 5 rounds, 7 players; https://melee.gg/Tournament/View/226959
*Prizing: $10 entry; it was supposed to be a 1st place SOR box prizing event, but we didn’t hit the 16 player minimum.
First place got 9 SOR packs.
Three X-1 got 3 SOR packs.
There were also some participation packs of the Weekly Promo packs from each of the three sets given out to everyone.
We went 3-0 / 2-1; we faced each other and went into the last match as the only undefeated players.
Deck - Bossk Green
This event was the first time playing this specific deck, where I saw this list from a PQ and made minor tweaks to it. Just Bossk Green doing standard Bossk Green good stuff.
Matchups
Vs Rex Yellow 2-0
I ramped and was able to maintain board control.
Vs Quinlan TT 2-0
I ramped and was able to maintain board control.
Vs Alyssa
Didn't matter as we were the only undefeated going into the third and last round.
1/14 - Cardboard Games Weekly
Format: optional presiding, Bo1, 5 rounds, 19 players; https://melee.gg/Tournament/View/224915
Alyssa went 4-1, I went 2-3. We didn’t pre-side.
Deck - Quinlan Blue
After seeing the Han1 Blue list, I was inspired to build this the day-of and played it for the first time at this weekly. Boy, did I hella perform badly.
Matchups
Vs Qi'Ra Green 1-0
I missed my Turn 2 play, which was a bit frustrating as I knew that I'm the aggressor in this matchup. After they played Superlaser Blast, I was able to refill my board and was hoping that they didn't have another one. They did play a Devastator, that I later dealt with via Vanquish.
Vs Yoda Green 0-1
I missed my Turn 3 play or something. They ended up triple ramping to leader deploying. I completely lost board control.
Vs Han1 Yellow 1-0
I missed my Turn 1 play, but so did my opponent. On Turn 2, they played Tech, I played Village Protector. On Turn 3, they played Waylay, I played Kanan Jarrus. They didn't seem to have drawn that well as I later just had total board control.
Vs Bossk Blue 0-1
I knew that this was going to be a tough matchup without my sideboard. My Turn 1 Outspoken Representative did discourage any Power of the Dark Side / Merciless Contest plays. Turn 2, I played Yoda, and my opponent responded with an Entrenched. But later on, they were just able to deal with my threats, and played like two or three Vigilances, including one being recursed via Bounty Hunter Crew.
Vs Quinlan Tarkintown 0-1
I had a decent early-mid game, but I underestimated the amount of burn their deck could do. I had an uncontested Jedi Lightsaber'd Quinlan that killed their Quinlan. I should've been more focused on clearing their board to retain my health.
Conclusion
This past CBG weekly was my worst performance in a long time, I basically haven’t had a negative record since like my early days of Set 1. I think I just had unlucky draws as the deck list’s cost curve doesn’t look bad, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. But yeah, I keep flip-flopping of what to bring for my next two PQs.
