Set 3 TWI: Odyssey Games’ Sealed $1k
12/7: We both scrubbed out at 2-2, but I opened a showcase! :D
tl;dr: I played Quinlan Green for the first round, then pivoted to Grievous Green; Alyssa played Anakin Green.
Table of Contents
12/7 - Odyssey Games
Format: Sealed, 6 Swiss rounds into Top Cut draft, 41 players
1st Deck - Quinlan Green
I had horrible leader options, as they're all Cunning: 3 Quinlans, 1 Asajj, 1 Jango Fett, and 1 Grievous.
I decided to go with Quinlan Green as I had a lot of heroism cards, but I later pivoted to Grievous Green for the 2nd round. But I basically knew that during the deck building process that this wasn’t a Top Cut worthy deck.
Matchups
Vs Obi-Wan Green 2-0
Game 1: On the second to last turn, I had ~24 damage on my base and they had ~26 damage on their base. They played Zillo Beast. I had a Republic Attack Pod and maybe two other smaller units. I played a 501st Liberator to heal 3. They might have thought I had extra healing that would put me out of Zillo Beast range, as I had about 5 more resources up, so they attacked with their Eta-2 Light Interceptor, I claimed and hit for lethal in the following turn with Republic Attack Pod.
Game 2: I had a Clone Commander Cody that lived for a long time, protected by B1 Security Team.
2nd Deck - Grievous Green
After Round1, I reexamined my cards, and decided to pivot to Grievous Green mainly due to 3 Droid Deployment cards. My new deck has a much better early game.
Matchups
Vs Yoda Petraki Arena 2-0
Had Droid Deployment start in both games. Played Clone Commander Cody on curve both games. I just went super wide and just focused on base. Had lethal by the resource 7 turns basically in both games. Their Yoda never got deployed.
Vs Jango Red 0-2
Both games were a base race. Both games they had Hevy, which hurts so much.
Game 1: I mulliganed to a no Turn1 play (first hand only had Favorable Delegate). I also did a big misplay, where I mistakenly thought the Grievous leader unit grants +1/+1 buff (and Sentinel) to the droid (it's actually only +1/+0 buff). My opponent played On the Doorstep. I attacked with my injured Grievous to kill their Jango, putting Grievous at 7 damage, and (mistakenly) buff the HP of B1 Security Team. The opponent just cleared my B1 Security Team with an On the Doorstep droid and I also couldn't protect my Grievous leader that turn from their other ready droids. I had other droid tokens that I should've buffed with Grievous.
Game 2: I had a better opening, but just got out-aggro'd. My opponent’s Confederate Tri-Fighter actually mattered as it disabled my 501st Liberator from healing my base.
Vs Anakin Green 0-2
Game 1: It was a base race, but they had multiple overwhelm units, which basically rendered my Grievous sentinel buff useless in terms of protecting my base health.
Game 2: I think it all started going downhill when they played a 3/5 Relentless Rocket Droid vs my 4/3 Hidden Sharpshooter on the resource 4 turn. By the resource 8 or so turn, my base had ~23 damage, their base had ~12 damage. They had three space units vs my one space unit.
Conclusion
It’s sealed, so pray to RNGesus for a good deck. But I am a little disappointed in being totally aspect locked to Cunning.
Oof. Six packs with one leader color is an insane beat. I was thinking about traveling up from SD, but something like this gave me pause. I don't know if there is a way to mitigate this but seems like you navigated it as best you could.
