Very cool to read that you guys made it out to Hawai'i! Some of us San Diego locals were chatting about it but by the time we looked into it, it was only a week out and flights were looking rough.

I think it's a good thing that someone is calling out the not-so-great things about some of these stores, in particular prizing. I personally didn't attend the Chula Vista PQ because I have heard some negative things about the store, but chose not to openly state anything to avoid looking like I was trying to keep people away (or even shaming them) from playing in one of the two SoCal PQs. I think organized play will keep improving, and stores will hopefully improve their communication.

Thanks for the write-up!

Yeah, we booked our travels in early December, but that's also because we knew two confirmed people (the other two CBG'rs) who were going. We also talked to a few others who said they were considering, but none of them showed up haha.

I've actually been calling out every PQ event we've been to in my write-ups, both good and bad. Only the Set2 Pasadena PQ was basically perfect in my experience, but that should be the minimum expectation, unlike the negative experiences I've had with the other four PQs we've been to (the Set3 Pasadena PQ technically wasn't an issue the day-of, but I still think it's a hasty decision to continue to hold the event as scheduled despite the uncertain fire situation and the unhealthy air quality even up to the day before the event).

The lack of prizing transparency is a huge issue. It was an issue with the Set2 Vegas PQ, but they actually fully announced their prizing at the time of their ticket sales for the Set3 PQ, so it's good to see them improve. It's was also an issue with the Set3 Chula Vista PQ (feel free to join their Discord to read about our attempts to get them to announce their prizing details <2 weeks before the event). Same issue with this Set3 Hawaii PQ as well. But it's my first time experiencing such an egregious issue with the prizing itself at this Hawaii PQ.

Totally understandable, I also wouldn't write something just based on rumors/speculations.

I think players (and content creators :D) in general need to hold stores accountable and the whole vote with our wallet thing. That's why I called out of the lack of communication regarding prizing for Set2 Vegas PQ and Set3 Chula Vista PQ on their Discords. I did attempt the same for Hawaii PQ, but we were going regardless, so I didn't feel the need to put in as much effort on that front.
